FAQ

So far, it has been my practice to end each location with a “wrap up” upon leaving. I like to think of it a bit like the Getting There and Away section of a “Lonely Planet” chapter. But in this case, we’re leaving today for another Greek island, not leaving Greece itself – and Patmos is special and different. So, I feel something special and different is in order to help conclude this chapter of Patmos – The Patmos FAQ.

Answer: To avoid being one of the people who don’t go to Patmos.

Question 2: What is there to do in Patmos?
Answer: Walking, biking, motor scooter riding, beach going, swimming, eating at great restaurants, shopping, socializing with interesting new people, exploring, music and dance festivals, art showings, visiting the monastery and absorbing the indescribably great vibe of the small, magical island.

Answer: A little too good.

Question 4: What time of year should I go to Patmos?
Answer: Whenever you can. But March through October are best and August is the busiest month.

Answer: Unless you like riding a motor scooter or renting a small car, stay in Skala. There are many great studio places here you can have a kitchenette, balcony and a little more space at prices equal to a hotel. There are also a few real hotels – and a few very fancy ones near Grikos beach and up in Hora if you really dig the nice hotel experience.

Question 6: If Patmos had a favorite color, what would it be?
Answer: Blue. Definitely blue.

Question 7: If Patmos took me out on a date, where would Patmos take me and why?
Answer: Nowhere. Patmos sees no reason to go anywhere or hurry around. Patmos knows it is gorgeous. You would need to court Patmos.

Question 8: Should I rent a motor bike or car?
Answer: Ideally, yes. Patmos has many gorgeous beaches and coves that you’ll need to drive to see. A motor bike lets you enjoy the island breeze and park easily too. It’s not required to enjoy Patmos, but it helps and will change your entire view of Patmos. A vehicle is also very handy for shlepping around six liter packs of water if your significant other drinks coffee every morning and constantly needs bottled water to fuel her coffee habit.

Question 9: Is Patmos a good place for a family vacation?
Absolutely. Many Europeans bring kids and take their annual family vacations in Patmos.

Question 10: What should I bring to Patmos?
Money. And some clothes.

Question 11: If Patmos were a celebrity, who would Patmos be?
Answer: Sofia Lauren (younger)

Question 14: What’s my minimum, budget price for lodging?
Answer: €35 a night.

Question 15: Is there a hospital on Patmos?
